Driving Tours in Randolph County

By admin • Apr 13th, 2008 • Category: Day Trip

Just tripped across this site.  Someone up in Elkins did a great job putting together a set of driving tours (with maps, in printable .pdfs), organized around different themes. Scenic Byways and Backroads, Historic Towns, Civil War, Mountain Heritage, and “Special Forest Places.”

Of course, many of them cover the same stretches of road, so the overachieving tourist can check out the spot where the first general to die in the Civil War, uh, died . . . while marveling some of the last stands of virgin timber in the state.

  1. Nice start! For a few years now, I’ve been maintaining a website for a friend up in Randolph County who built his own very cool inn and pub. He’s an Irish-born American and a great guy, and if you’re up that way sometime you won’t regret checking it out:

    (Always good music there, too)

I ran into your mom at the store yesterday, and she told me what you and Joe are doing. I think Shouts & Hollers is a great concept that’s coming together nicely. Good luck with it! I’d be happy to contribute to the content now and then as time allows, if that’s OK.
