[MEET-UP] A little bird told me (tweet!)
By Mona S • Aug 19th, 2008 • Category: Around Town, Picture ThisIt’s hard to tell which is cooler–that the internet helps you to meet and talk to people who live really really far away or that it can also help you meet people who live really close to you.
Today was the day for appreciating the latter, by meeting up with people in Charleston who blog and/or use Twitter, at a “tweet-up” (a what?) earlier today at the Capitol Roasters, organized by Bill and Dave of 304 Blogs.
Really, the only criteria for showing up was that you saw the invitation and you were interested. Which makes for a slightly random and pretty fun crowd.
18 people showed up tonight, and on a few days notice. Some people already knew each other well; others had read each other’s blogs or communicated online, and others were meeting for the first time. Here’s some of what it looked like:
Bill (a contributor to Shouts and Hollers) has more pictures on his blog. There didn’t seem to be any real ulterior motive in organizing the gathering–just getting to meet and talk to people and have a nice time. It worked!
Sound like fun? Don’t worry if you missed out: keep your ear to the wall by joining Twitter and following some West Virginians; http://twitter.com/304blogs is a good place to start, and from there you can start to find others.
