Find great deals on Fiestaware at the Homer Laughlin Fiestaware Tent Sale on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (Aug. 22-24) at the Fiestaware Outlet Store in Flatwoods. This event happens only twice a year. The schedule is: Friday & Saturday - 10am – 7pm, and Sunday - 10am-6pm.
If you aren’t already a collector, here’s a little background. Fiesta Dinnerware is the signature china line manufactured by the Homer Laughlin China Company in Newell, WV:
Fiesta® Dinnerware was designed by Frederick Hurten Rhead in 1936 and is now among
the most collected china products in the world. As originally designed, the line featured art deco styling and bold, bright colors. The product was discontinued in 1973 and reissued in 1986 with new contemporary colors to mark its 50th anniversary.
You can see all kinds of styles and colors of Fiestaware on the company’s retail site. Also, with an advanced reservation (2 weeks advance notice), you can tour the factory. According to Fiesta collector Snack Hound,
Tours are conducted on Mondays and Fridays, and includes a visit to the Homer Laughlin China museum, where you can view over 130 years of their offerings.
But getting back to the event at hand… while you can buy Fiesta Ware at all kinds of retail outlets (like the factory store in Flatwoods, WV), this weekend is your twice-a-year opportunity to acquire factory seconds at bargain basement prices. There are a few rules:
- To ensure each customers place in line tickets will be given out each day of the sale beginning at 9:30am.
- Each person must be present to receive a ticket. Customers will line up according to ticket number.
- You must stay in line until you receive a ticket, and be in line when your number is called.
- Once you check out you may get back in line to receive another ticket.
- Each customer may fill 4 crates each trip.
- Due to safety reasons no one under 16 will be permitted in the tent.
- We ask that you bring a dolly to carry your purchases on.
Some tips if you go: To fit in with the diehard Fiestaware shoppers, wear thick socks on your hands while pawing through all the dishes so you can wipe off the dust & spot imperfections. This is a seconds sale. Most of it is stacked in bins, and it can be very dusty. And here are even more tips, from the Snack Hound blog. Check ‘em out! Happy shopping!
