There’s a new community art mural on the side of the Habitat for Humanity ReStore (map). They’re having an opening celebration from 4-6pm on Saturday October 25th, with a chance to meet the artists, as well as food, drinks, and prizes. Even if you can’t make the opening, the mural is a permanent addition to Charleston’s scenery, so you can check it when you have time.
The mural shows some of what Habitat for Humanity of Kanawha and Putnam County has accomplished during their 20 years of existence. It includes an actual count of the 124 houses we have built, and at the celebration Saturday, the last house will be filled in with handprints of homeowners, volunteers and community members.
The artists created works inspired by the ReStore mission: building Habitat homes, recycling and being good environmental stewards, and serving as a great place for the community to shop. The artists involved are:
- Aowenking
- Charles Jupiter Hamilton
- Kelly Osborn-Huffman
- Amanda Miller
- East End Step-by-Step Program (Rick Goosman)
- Mark Wolfe
- Amy Williams
- Charleston Catholic Advanced Art Class
- Dane Klingaman
Sherwin Williams sponsored the project and the Charleston Job Corp prepped and painted the building.
