[GOOD EATS] One Downtown Restaurant Closes And Another Might Open Soon

I’m sad to report that Mr Wilson’s on Lee Street closed on Friday. I ran into the owners while having lunch on Friday at the New Moon Cafe next door to Mr Wilson’s.  (Our friends over at Fork You reviewed Mr Wilson’s earlier this year.)  The owners said they were having problems “keeping things up.” Sadly it sounds like another small business has fallen victim to the bad economy. I used to eat at Mr Wilson’s frequently. The staff there went out of their way to make sure I had a good dinning experience, and the blue plate specials were first class.

In other news, I received word last weekend that one of my favorite pizza places, Pies and Pints Pizzeria, is going to open in the former Cazon Southwest Deli location at 222 Capitol Street. While it’s nothing more than rumor at this point I trust my source.

Many people compare Pies and Pies to Lola’s on Bridge Road. (Our friend at Fork You reviewed Lola’s last year.) While the menus are similar it’s sort of like comparing Subway to Bellacino’s. Pies and Pints has more items on their menu that Lola’s, and while both restaurants feature specialty pizzas you won’t fine one pizza duplicated between the two. Pies and Pints also has a much larger beer selection.

I actually perfer the atmosphere at Pies and Pints in Fayetteville to the small spaces, and really small parking lot, at Lola’s. But Lola’s has my favorite pizza, the shrimp, spicy sausage, and goat cheese pizza. If Pies and Pints opens on Capitol Street it will be a great addition to Capitol Street and another geat place to get specialty pizza in Charleston.

The Pies and Pints menu can be found online at this link.
